Pan Asia Law Corporation in alliance with Wikborg Rein, Singapore

Norwegian, English and Singapore law

Pan Asia Law Corporation (“PALC”) is a Singapore law practice that was established in October 2007. On 1 May 2008, with the approval of the Attorney-General under Singapore’s Legal Profession Act, PALC entered into a formal law alliance (“FLA”) with the Singapore branch of the international law firm Wikborg, Rein & Co. (“WR”).

Since its incorporation, PALC has shared office premises with Wikborg Rein in Singapore, the implementation of the alliance with Wikborg Rein means that the two practices are able to do much more than share premises, however, since as the alliance is able to market itself as a single service provider in cross-border transactions, i.e. transactions involving the law of more than one country or territory. Thus, for example, the alliance is able to assist Wikborg Rein’s clients in cross-border transactions involving both Norwegian and/or English law and Singapore law - a genuine “one-stop shop”.

The nature of the alliance means that the focus of PALC is very much directed at the principal practice areas of Wikborg Rein in Singapore, in particular shipping, ship finance, corporate and offshore oil and gas. The alliance’s practice covers all non-contentious aspects of these areas of the law including drafting, reviewing and advising on finance and security documents, ship and rig construction contracts and advising on the corporate structuring of such transactions. A specific focus is the taxation aspects of such transactions with Norwegian and Singaporean tax expertise available through the alliance. The alliance also has a contentious arm to the practice, concentrating on the arbitration or litigation of contractual and tax disputes in the shipping and offshore oil and gas sectors.

At the same time PALC continues to develop it’s purely Singapore practice covering general company / commercial work, employment law (contentious and non-contentious), landlord and tenant, trusts and dispute resolution related to property and tax.
