Contract and Construction

Wikborg Rein’s practice area group for contract law and construction offers a complete range of legal services within this field. We advise and assist a wide array of clients including developers, contractors, local authorities and consultants.

Our team of specialists advises on all phases of building and construction projects, ranging from the initial tender phase through to possible dispute resolution following completed projects.

We have broad experience in organising and implementing the tendering process for both private and public sector contracts. We believe that quality assurance of the tender documents and compliance with current regulations relating to the tendering process can help parties to avoid breach of contract and other related disputes.

We regularly assist with all stages of the contract process including drafting and negotiating and management of the contract. In our experience, many disputes can be avoided if the parties agree on precise and clearly defined contractual obligations during the preliminary negotiations to achieve balance in the contractual relationship. Developments in the practice of contract law indicate that it is now more important than ever for parties in a contractual relationship to comply with the strict regime for contract management.

Due to the fundamental differences between the interests of the parties to a contract, it is often difficult to avoid disputes that may arise at any stage during or on completion of the project. We offer our clients pragmatic, first-class advice, no matter what stage the dispute has reached. We are currently advising contractors and builders in connection with final settlement disputes as a result of defects that are identified within the warranty period.

The contract law and construction group consists of 30 highly-qualified lawyers headed by partner Erlend W. Holstrøm. Our lawyers have extensive experience from traditional land-based contract work and provision of legal services to the shipping and offshore industry, both nationally and internationally.
