UN lifts Eritrea sanctions
On 14 November 2018, the UN Security Council adopted resolution 2444 (2018) terminating all UN restrictive measures against Eritrea with immediate effect.
UN first imposed the sanctions (i.e. arms embargo, asset freezes and travel bans targeting especially the Eritrean political and military leadership) in 2009, as a consequence of Eritrea's armed disputes with its neighbouring countries and alleged support for al-Shabaab. The sanctions termination this November follows the gradual reconciliation between the countries as well as weakened evidence of Eritrea actually supporting al-Shabaab.
