Wikborg Rein London advises BW on El Salvador's first LNG-to-power project
Wikborg Rein advised long-standing client BW Gas Ltd (BW LNG) in respect of its provision of a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) as part of the first integrated Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG)-to-Power project at the Port of Acajutla in the Department of Sonsonate in El Salvador, led by Invenergy and its project subsidiary Energía del Pacífico (EDP).
It is a project of national importance, which on its completion will supply over 30% of the country's energy demand, and will significantly reduce the environmental impact in the region through use of cleaner fuels for sustainable power generation. BW LNG will provide the FSRU that will be permanently moored offshore, with its sister company BW Offshore providing the spread mooring. LNG will be converted to natural gas and transported through a sub-sea gas pipeline to a power plant on land.
Wikborg Rein partner, Jonathan Goldfarb, commented: “We were delighted to have been given the opportunity to work alongside the team at BW LNG on this exciting and transformative project in El Salvador. This is a leading development for BW LNG, and the industry as a whole. Our role in this project demonstrates our expertise in the floating LNG arena."
Jonathan was assisted by Partner Renaud Barbier-Emery, Specialist Counsel Ina Lutchmiah, Senior Associate Sebastian Lea and Associate Alexandra Eriksen.
