Mike Stewart is a Partner at Wikborg Rein's London office and is part of the firm's Construction practice. He focuses on complex, high value disputes arising out of major energy and infrastructure projects in emerging markets, carrying out project counsel work and international arbitration.

Stewart's project counsel work involves managing live risks from within the client's team, drafting key correspondence and assisting with the administration of the project. He has carried out this role on major construction and energy projects in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Yemen, Turkey, Iraq and Albania. He has also advised on FPSOs in Indonesia and Malaysia.

Stewart's international arbitration work involves dealing with all stages of the proceedings, from constituting the Tribunal and drafting pleadings to acting as advocate at interlocutory and final Hearings. He has appeared in international arbitrations arising out of projects in Azerbaijan, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Doha, Jordan, India and Sri Lanka.

  • Advising an international energy company in relation to disputes arising from an EPC Contract for the conversion of a vessel to an FPSO in Indonesia (subject to English law). 
  • Advising an international energy company in relation to disputes arising from an EPC Contract for the decommissioning of an FPSO in Malaysia (subject to Malaysian law). 
  • Advising an international contractor in relation to a USD 2.7 billion water and power project in Saudi Arabia, constructed under bespoke EPC Conditions of Contract (subject to English law).
  • Advising an international contractor in relation to a USD 3.2 billion water and power project in Qatar, constructed under bespoke EPC Conditions of Contract (subject to English law).
  • Advising a Turkish contractor in relation to disputes arising from a road project in Oman, being constructed under FIDIC Conditions of Contract (subject to Omani law).
  • Advising a Turkish contractor in relation to disputes arising from a road project in Northern Iraq, being constructed under FIDIC Conditions of Contract (subject to Iraqi law).
  • Advising a joint venture of Turkish contractors in relation to disputes arising from a Hydroelectric Power Project in Albania, being constructed under FIDIC Conditions of Contract (subject to English law).
  • Advising a Turkish contractor in relation to disputes arising from a Hydroelectric Power Project in Northern Turkey, being constructed under FIDIC Conditions of Contract (subject to English law).
  • Advising a joint venture of Turkish contractors in relation to disputes arising from a Hydroelectric Power Project in Eastern Turkey, being constructed under FIDIC Conditions of Contract (subject to English law).

  • ICC arbitration on behalf of a Turkish contractor in relation to a road project in Oman under bespoke Conditions of Contract.  Seat of arbitration Geneva and subject to Omani law.
  • ICC arbitration on behalf of a Yemeni contractor in relation to a pipeline project in Yemen under bespoke Conditions of Contract.  Seat of arbitration Vienna and subject to Austrian law.
  • ICC arbitration on behalf of a Saudi Arabian contractor in relation to a power project in Saudi Arabia under bespoke EPC Conditions of Contract.  Seat of arbitration Jeddah and subject to Saudi Arabian law.
  • ICC arbitration on behalf of a German infrastructure company in relation to the supply of alleged defective electrical products by an Indian manufacturing company.  Seat of arbitration Delhi and subject to English law. 
  • ICC arbitration on behalf of an international hotel group in relation to one of its hotels in Baku under FIDIC Conditions of Contract.  Seat of arbitration London and subject to English law.
  • ICC arbitration on behalf of a Japanese contractor in relation to a road project in Sri Lanka under FIDIC Conditions of Contract.  Seat of arbitration Colombo and subject to Sri Lankan law.
  • LCIA arbitration on behalf of a Yemeni contractor in relation to an LNG plant in Yemen under bespoke EPC Conditions of Contract.  Seat of arbitration London and subject to English law. 
  • UNCITRAL arbitration on behalf of an international hotel group in relation to one of its hotels in Ukraine under FIDIC Conditions of Contract.  Seat of arbitration Vienna and subject to English law.
  • Ad hoc arbitration on behalf of a Joint Venture of international contractors in relation to a rail project in India under FIDIC Conditions of Contract.  Seat of arbitration Delhi and subject to Indian law.
  • Ad hoc arbitration on behalf of a Spanish contractor in relation to a hospital in Jordan under FIDIC Conditions of Contract.  Seat of arbitration Amman and subject to Jordanian law.
