Matthew er senioradvokat ved Wikborg Reins Singapore-kontor og er en del av firmaets Shipping Offshore-praksis. Matthew spesialiserer seg på internasjonal kommersiell tvisteløsning med fokus på shipping- og offshore tvister. Han har vært rådgiver i både dry and wet shipping-saker, herunder bergingssaker, grunnstøtinger, vrakfjerning, kollisjoner, krav relatert til usikre havner samt charterpartibaserte tvister av forskjellige slag, herunder SUPPLYTIME og BARECON. Matthew bistår også ifm teknologi- og kommersielle saker innenfor hans spesialiseringsområder. Matthew har erfaring fra rettssaker ved engelske handels- og sjøfartsdomstoler, samt internasjonal voldgift (LMAA, LCIA, SIAC, SCMA, UNICITRAL, FOSFA, GAFTA).

I tillegg til Singapore og London har Matthew tilbrakt tid i Dubai hvor han jobbet med en rekke omstridte saker for kunder med base i regionen. Han har også arbeidet i et offshore forsikringssyndikat, og har i tillegg jobbet 6 måneder i FD&D-avdelingen i en internasjonal Group P&I Klubb. Matthew skriver og foreleser regelmessig om saker som gjelder hans praksis.

Matthew er kvalifisert i England and Wales og er anbefalt av The Legal 500 2021.

  • Acted for a slot charterer in relation to high profile container ship casualty.

  • Acted for a cargo underwriter in relation to a widely reported marine insurance matter concerning "breaking" limitation of liability limits due to fraudulent activities.

  • Acted for salvors in relation to a high profile salvage operation concerning a large container ship casualty.

  • Acted on behalf of a shipowner in relation to a collision between an LPG carrier and a bulk carrier which resulted in a subsequent grounding.

  • Acted for a tanker operator in relation to dispute concerning a long term time charter.

  • Acted for a shipowner in respect of a large scale dispute arising from a fire on board a PCTC vessel. The dispute involved court proceedings in Japan, Korea, Germany, Belgium, Spain and England.

  • Acted for a shipowner in respect of high profile grounding and subsequent cargo claims.

  • Acted for salvors in relation to environmentally sensitive salvage operation concerning a cement carrier.

  • Acted on behalf of an offshore contractor in relation to a large scale contractual dispute with a headline claim in excess of US$100 million.

  • Drafted reference documents for an insurance syndicate for the purposes of writing new business and analysing risk. This included preparing full contractual reviews of WELCAR, LOGIC 3 and the various SUPPLYTIME forms.

  • Advised on the potential liabilities associated with various offshore service contracts.

  • Advised on the potential exposure associated with various contracts in the context of upstream oil and gas operations.
