lan Teare is the Managing Partner at Wikborg Rein’s Singapore office and is part of the firm’s Shipping Offshore practice and Maritime and Offshore Emergency Response Team. He has a broad marine and offshore practice including collision and salvage, charterparty, bill of lading disputes and marine insurance matters. Teare has a degree in Nautical Studies from Plymouth University where he specialized in Naval Architecture. After a period training as a navigator with the Royal Air Force, he joined the admiralty team of a London based shipping law firm in early 1992 and specialised in the investigation of marine casualties, particularly collision and salvage matters. Teare is OPITO certified for travel offshore by helicopter and launch. Having qualified as a Solicitor in 2000, he spent five years (2000-2005) in Piraeus where he acted for a variety of ship owners, P&I Clubs and Underwriters in a broad spectrum of shipping disputes. Teare worked in the London market between 2005 and 2012 when he moved to Singapore.

• Brillante Virtuoso - alleged pirate attack, explosion and fire on board a laden VLCC, off Aden.
• Attalya – Engine room and accommodation fire, claim for Constructive Total Loss, off Ghana. 
• B. Oceania – collision and subsequent sinking in the Malacca Straits, wreck removal, parallel proceedings in China and Australia.
• "Navig8 Stealth" – collision with tug and barge combination in the Maslacca Straits. 
• Mare Forum – Collision between a laden bulk carrier and commercial fishing vessel off Shanghai.
• Rio Gold – grounding and LOF salvage in the Andaman Sea.
• Eleni – collision off Vung Tau, Vietnam.
• Pride of Bilbao – Bareboat charterparty redelivery dispute as to the condition of the vessel on redelivery.
• Hellas Endurance – Charterparty dispute, contamination of a cargo of gasoline.
• Teras Constantine - Towcon agreement, loss of tow and subsequent salvage
• Relentless - Demurrage claim, allegations surrounding discharging issues with a cargo of Low Sulphur Wax Residue Cargo.
• Union Erwin - Collision in the East China Sea.
• Advising in respect of coverage issues arising from the contamination of a cargo of Paraxylene.


• Advising a major sea bed mining company in relation to the contracts required to procure and operate a Production Support Vessel for use in mining seabed minerals.
• Advising the operator of a Floating Storage Unit in relation to the application of The Basel Convention in relation to the proposed recycling of the Unit in the Asiapac region.
• Advising an oil rig operator in relation to the interpretation of contractual terms relating to costs escalation provisions in a long term rig hire contract.
• Advising a consortium of banks in relation to matters arising from a shipbuilder's failure to perform under a ship building contract.
• Advising a consortium of North Sea rig operators in relation to claims arising from the shut-down of nine rigs which were connected to the CATS Pipeline after the pipe was damaged by a tanker dragging its anchor across the pipe.
• Advising an Oil Major in relation to the interpretation of contractual terms relating to pricing in a Gas Sales Agreement.
• Advising the operator of a seismic survey vessel in relation to a dispute over payment for survey services in waters off Tanzania.  Securing successful judgments in the English High Court and Court of Appeal.
• Advising an Oil Major in relation to the interpretation of contractual terms relating to pricing in a Gas Sales Agreement.
• Advising an oil rig operator in relation to the interpretation of contractual terms relating to costs escalation provisions in a long term rig hire contract.
