Under the partnership, Wikborg Rein’s London office will provide ongoing pro bono legal support of The Seafarers’ Charity’s mission to improve the lives of those who work, or have worked, at sea.

The partnership officially launched on 12 January 2026 with a meet-and-greet event at Wikborg Rein’s London office. The event brought together members of the London office and the full leadership team from The Seafarers’ Charity, providing an opportunity to build relationships and establish the foundations for an effective and collaborative working relationship.

The Seafarers’ Charity, an international fundraising grant-funder, focuses on providing financial support, advocating for seafarers, and convening stakeholders across the maritime sector to ensure seafarers are free from need and disadvantage. It operates three annual grant cycles and distributes an average of £2.5 million each year to charities supporting those who currently work, or have previously worked, at sea. In 2025, they helped more than 400,000 seafarers and their families through our network of delivery partners, awarding more than £2.7m to address the challenges of a seafaring life.

Chris Grieveson, London Managing Partner at Wikborg Rein, commented:

“This partnership reflects our long-standing connection to the maritime sector and our belief that pro bono work should be purposeful, well-structured, and aligned with the causes we know best. The Seafarers’ Charity plays a vital role in supporting seafarers and their families, and we are proud that our London team can contribute its legal expertise in a way that delivers tangible impact.”

Deborah Layde, Chief Executive at The Seafarers’ Charity, added:

“We are delighted to be partnering with Wikborg Rein’s London office. Access to high-quality legal support is invaluable to our work, and this collaboration will strengthen our ability to operate effectively, engage with stakeholders, and continue supporting seafarers across the sector. We look forward to building a strong and collaborative relationship.”

The success of Wikborg Rein’s pro bono partnership will rest on the engagement and enthusiasm of the whole team. Colleagues will be involved through direct legal work, participation in stakeholder groups, and support for events.  Every contribution helps to deliver a meaningful and lasting impact for seafarers and their families.
