Wikborg Rein on board Statsraad Lehmkuhl
This week, during One Ocean Week, the main focus has been on sustainable use of the ocean and many people have travelled to Bergen to attend important conferences.
Thursday morning our Fisheries and Aquaculture team hosted a breakfast seminar onboard Statsraad Lehmkuhl. The ship was filled with people eager to learn more about the challenges the world oceans are facing and how we can contribute to a more sustainable use of the oceans.
Grunde Bruland welcomed everyone, and then introduced the first speaker, Dr. Vera Agostini. She is the deputy director of FAO's Fisheries and Aquaculture Division, and in her presentation she focused on the importance of the world oceans for global food production.
Then, Henrik Harboe, who is Sherpa for Prime Minister Støre in the International Ocean Panel and Norwegian Ocean Envoy in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs gave us an insight in Norway's ocean policy for sustainable use of the world oceans.
In the next session our very own, Elise Johansen and Martin H. Bryde talked about how spatial planning of Norwegian ocean areas should be developed in the future.
Lastly, Geir Lasse Taranger, Research Director at the Institute of Marine Research and Geir Magne Knutsen from the fish farming company Bremnes Seashore, talked about increased efficiency in the utilization of costal aquaculture areas by improving site structure.
The same evening we hosted a reception for WR key clients and friends on Statsraad Lehmkuhl.
The weather was sunny as always and the entire evening could be enjoyed on deck. This was first and foremost a social event, but Øyvind Axe held a welcome speech talking about WR involvement and introduced Nina Jensen of Rev Ocean. Nina talked about her reflections on how to make the ocean healthy again and how we as individuals can contribute.
Haakon Vatle, CEO of the Statsraad Lehmkuhl Foundation told tales from the expedition and made all the guests join in on a shanty, as he said; a singing ship is a happy ship.
It was a great day and evening spent on beautiful and majestic Statsraad Lehmkuhl!
