In arbitration, you have to prove your case even if the opponent does not show up. The no-show creates some pitfalls to avoid.

With its ample hydropower, developing wind power, and gas reserves, Norway is particularly well placed to produce both green hydrogen and blue hydrogen. Although the potential is obvious and there is a clear will to develop it further, the hydrogen industry is still in early stages. At present, relatively few supply contracts have been entered into and few clear market principles have developed. Haakon specialises in international arbitration. Over the last decade, he has worked almost exclusively with international arbitration, acting as counsel in numerous arbitration proceedings governed by the ICC, SCC and OCC arbitration rules, as well as ad hoc arbitrations governed by the Norwegian arbitration act. The arbitrations have in particular involved the European gas sector, the renewable energy sector and post M&A. Haakon also has experience with challenge and enforcement proceedings in numerous jurisdictions, as well as with EU procedural law, and EU competition and energy law.  As counsel he has handled matters governed by Norwegian, German, Swedish, Swiss, and Ukrainian law.

Haakon is part of the core team representing Naftogaz of Ukraine against Gazprom of Russia since 2014.  

In addition to working as counsel, Haakon also sits as arbitrator, both as co-arbitrator, sole arbitrator, and as chairman of the arbitral tribunal.
