The new Norwegian standard-form shipbuilding contract SHIP25 was adopted on 9 October 2025 following negotiations between the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association and Nordisk Defence Club, representing the shipowners' interests, and the Norwegian Shipbuilders and Wikborg Rein, representing the builders' interests.

SHIP25 has been positively received by the international shipbuilding industry and the maritime law community. There has however been a strong interest from Norwegian shipowners and shipbuilders in a Norwegian-language version of SHIP25, and this has now been prepared by Wikborg Rein and Nordisk.

Whilst preparing a Norwegian version minor corrections to formatting, references and wording have also been made in SHIP25, resulting in SHIP25 (version 2026). The Norwegian-language version of SHIP25 (versjon 2026) incorporates these corrections. The parties to SHIP25 have also agreed to review SHIP25 every second year for possible future revisions.

Both documents have today, 27 May 2026, been adopted and published by the parties to SHIP25.

You can read more about the contract and download SHIP25 here both in Norwegian and the updated English version.
