Recent developments have resulted in the full reinstatement of UN sanctions against Iran, targeting the country's nuclear and ballistic missiles programmes. This, in turn, has triggered the EU and UK to adopt even broader restrictions against certain sectors in Iran and against persons and individuals connected with Iran.

The corporate offence of 'failure to prevent fraud', established by the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023 (ECCTA), is now in force as of 1 September 2025. This marks a significant new phase for large organisations with UK connections, which should now take steps towards active mitigation of fraud risks.

In September 2025, the UK’s new corporate “failure to prevent fraud” offence introduced under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023 (the "Act"), will come into force. The Act is part of the UK government's ongoing and wider efforts to reform corporate criminal enforcement in the UK, including to strengthen corporate accountability.

Yesterday, on 8 October 2024, the EU Council established a new framework under the Russia sanctions regime in response to hybrid threats from Russia. Tomorrow, 10 October 2024, will see the entry into force of the UK's new framework for enforcement of trade, aircraft and shipping sanctions.

In this month's ESG alert we note that the EU has adopted the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) and the Net-Zero Industry Act and that the EU's Critical Raw Materials Act has entered into force. In Norway, the Ministry of Children and Families has commenced an evaluation of the Transparency Act one year after the first reporting deadline while various government authorities have issued public consultations relating to different areas of climate legislation.

In addition to her Norwegian legal qualification, she is a solicitor qualified in England and Wales. 

Hanne has broad expertise within the field of compliance, with particular focus on cross-border investigations and crisis management, corporate criminal liability, sanctions, anti-corruption work and human rights and responsible business. She is a well-rounded lawyer who works on a range of matters for big corporate clients – the common denominators are complexity and international focus.

Hanne works with clients across different sectors including, most notably, industry conglomerates, companies in the telecoms and renewables sectors and financial institutions.  Hanne also has experience working as Chief Compliance Officer at a Norwegian listed company focusing on renewable energy.

Hanne is ranked as a Leading Associate by Legal500, described as 'a key contact for cross-border investigations and complex international disputes'.

Hanne is also a member of the Norwegian Law Society's Ethics Committee.
