On Tuesday 30 September 2025, the EFTA Court ruled that Norway is in breach of the EEA Agreement by maintaining an administrative practice that requires approval for acquisitions of 25% or more in banks and insurance companies, and by applying a presumption against such approvals.

The EU's regulations on securitisation will be incorporated into the EEA Agreement on 12 June. It is likely that the rules quickly will be implemented into Norwegian law, with entry into force 1 January 2025.

Jens Christian has extensive experience as head of the legal section for banking and insurance in the Ministry of Finance. There he led the work of drafting bills and regulations and deciding individual cases concerning banks and other credit institutions, insurance companies, insurance intermediaries, loan intermediaries, finance institutions, e-money institutions and payment institutions, and he worked closely with political leadership. Jens Christian was also responsible for EEA processes in the financial market area and has chaired the EFTA working group for financial services. Jens Christian has detailed knowledge about the entire financial regulatory framework, both in Norway and in the EU.

Jens Christian is appointed as a member to the Financial Supervisory Authority Appeal Board in the period 2025-2029.
