Geopolitical risk and insurance: claims, coverage and market solutions

Benjamin Ogden will give the keynote presentation. He will address the marine and insurance market perspective and will take as its point of departure the English High Court judgment of 11 June 2025 in the Russian Aircraft Lessor Policy Claims. The judgment considered a number of fundamental insurance law issues, including when a loss occurs for the purposes of the policy wording, how competing insurance covers interact, and whether the relevant claims fell under “all risks” or “war risks” cover. The case has significance beyond aviation and is of wider interest to insurers, brokers, insureds and risk managers dealing with politically exposed assets and complex international risks. 

Bente Røsvik will give her reflections on how the current risk landscape is viewed from the perspective of a major insurance buyer outside the marine market. She will address how geopolitical uncertainty, infrastructure exposure and changing threat scenarios affect the assessment and purchase of insurance cover. 

Lars Foyn will present possible insurance solutions available in the market and comment on how companies may approach coverage, risk transfer and preparedness in light of the evolving geopolitical situation.
